Since 2010 MEYTEC participate in the building of international cooperation between the North-West Hospital (KHNW) in Frankfurt am Main and The Jerudong Park Medical Centre (JPMC) in the Sultanate of Brunei. The goal has been to develop a Neuroscience Stroke and Rehabilitation Centre (NSRC), with MEYTEC providing the required telemedicine infrastructure.
The NSRC in Brunei specializes in the care of acute stroke patients, but also other patients with acute neurological diseases (e.g. meningitis, encephalitis, etc.) can be examined here. The project is currently one of the most extensive telemedical projects in the world. Utilizing MEYTEC’s telemedicine solutions, telemedical consultations can be carried out 24/7. The concerned patients are presented, diagnosed and examined using telemedicine in the KHNW in Frankfurt in real-time. The patient data such as CT, MRI, EEG, etc., is transferred directly to Frankfurt via an encrypted computer network to be analyzed and sent back to the NSRC to initiate the individual’s therapy.
Every day case conferences take place via the telemedical connection. All additional examination findings (CT, MRI, EEG, electrophysiology, ultrasound, CSF cytology) can be reported upon after electronic transmission to Frankfurt. With guaranteed latency time of no more than 30 minutes the Department of Neuroradiology at KHNW neuroradiological performs diagnosis of the complete neuroradiological examinations. Since June 2010 were more than 1,000 patients treated on this way.
In addition to the treatment of neurological acute patients at NSRC, by KHNW using MEYTEC’s telemedicine solution, the created infrastructure also promotes the further education and training of Bruneian professionals both in Germany as well as in Brunei.
